What's so special about "The Dark Side Of The Moon" ?

"The Dark Side Of The Moon" is a Pink Floyd's true colossus of classic rock album that was released on 1973 and it has become legendary over the course of years. It spent 741 weeks on the album chart from 1973 to 1988. The iconic cover art is no less contributory than the urban-legend connection to the Wizard of Oz. "The Dark Side Of The Moon" has sold more than 45 million copies and it is Pink Floyd's most successful album and the best-selling worldwide. It spent a mind-boggling 937 weeks on the Billboard 200 and made its creators – Roger Waters (bassist/vocalist)David Gilmour (guitarist/vocalist)Rick Wright (keyboardist/vocalistand Nick Mason (drummer)  incredibly wealthy.

Waters' vitriolic worldview had marked a transition of Pink Floyd from an experimental, jam oriented outfit primarily loved by college students to a first-rate rock act characterized by its rich songwriting, concept, creation and sound which caused it to become the most successful, celebrated and popular albums in rock history.

"Speak to Me"

"Speak to Me" was a classical concept but it was an introductory part of the album with sonic references of its forthcoming songs. You can hear the ticking clocks ("Time"), a cash register ("Money"), crazy laughter ("Brain Damage") and a woman's scream ("The Great Gig In The Sky") and all of it being interconnected with the sound of a pulsing heartbeat created without any plan or purpose with the recording of a kick drum.

"Breathe"

"Breathe" set the tone for Dark Side and it suited the beginning of the album with its description of the universal elements of existence. It had its roots in a tune which is titled "Breathe" that Waters had written for a documentary - The Body. Within those few lines "Breathe" describes birth, offers advise and then helplessly sinks down into the infinite loop of rat race, which can also be identified with rabbit race as it had been originally composed by Waters.

"The lyrics ... are an exhortation directed mainly at myself, but also at anybody else who cares to listen," Waters told Mojo. "It’s about trying to be true to one’s path."

"On the Run"

When Pink Floyd performed the Dark Side song cycle they recorded something called "the Travel Sequence", after "Breathe" and before "Time" which later turned into something more bizarre, futuristic and alien. It was named "On the Run" and it was like an interlude to connect two of the major songs. It was one of the most personal themes on Waters' list since he understood that Pink Floyd was still travelling in a sense that they couldn't still catch the spotlight and so you can say that they were travelling on the road or "On the Run", so to speak . It has an oscillating, ever repeating sci-fi sound along with some extra effects that hammered the idea of travel. It ended with the sound of a plane crash leaving little to interpret about how the travelling band felt about their concert schedule.

"Time"

You can say that "Time" reached the zenith of collaboration with the members claiming that it had been the most cohesive LP as co-workers on which all the four members received their writing credit as the only song in the album. Each of their creative ingenuity focuses on the track which signifies living in the moment.

"Some punch, some rock guitar," is how the guitarist described the approach to Rolling Stone in 2011. "You know, once you’ve had that guitar up so loud on the stage, where you can lean back and volume will stop you from falling backward, that’s a hard drug to kick."

Well, these are some of the songs that I liked the most along with "The Great Gig in the Sky", "Any Color You Like" and "Eclipse". Since, it's a huge album so you can take your time and listen to these songs that I have just suggested to you. If you are listening for the first time then you should try to decipher the meanings of the songs as well as the instrumentals and you may also get high. Just kidding...keep listening to Rock and Roll.

‘The Future of India’

I have read Swami Vivekananda’s idea of ‘The Future of India’. Here I have penned down my personal thoughts after reading a few other articles and opinions which are almost in line with Swamiji’s thoughts with slight modifications. At some places in this article I did not complete Swamiji’s ideas because I have consciously thought that the same idea could be expanded without making any changes to the essence of the idea as it could possibly which could pass a more inclusive message to the society where we all live. I think that the need of the hour is to follow Swami Vivekananda and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s ideas for India. I have envisioned my idea of the future of India here in line with Swami Vivekananda’a ideas of ‘The Future of India’. I am always open to a new idea but it should be an organized and structured thought. This could be in the form a constructive criticism or a discussion as well. Kindly read below and try to understand the thought process behind each ...

When did you know you wanted to become a writer?

Part :2 A fter coming to Kolkata I didn't quite focus on my writing. To be honest I lost that vibe completely. It was only after my first year of engineering that I wrote a blog. That was a personal blog where I had shared my feelings concerning some deplorable events that happened in my life earlier. Later, I modified it into a tech blog because after some time I became interested in technological kinds of stuff. Fortunately, I had a friend in my PG and he was quite a techie. So, in a way, I was also drawn towards technology. Another year had passed. There was some break at that point from blogging. I felt too lazy to think about something interesting or different from myself. Soon I was in my final year of engineering and I got interested in blogging once again and this time with technological topics because I used to follow some tech videos on YouTube and that helped me a lot with the contents. I thought of a plan about starting a technological blog and turning it into...
